3 MONTHS ACHTERHAUS RESIDENCY GRANTS 2024
(January-March 2024 & April-June 2024)
at the Achterhaus Ateliergemeinschaft e.V. in Hamburg / Germany, Deadline: 31. October 2023

The studio collective Achterhaus Ateliergemeinschaft e.V. is offering two free studio residencies for 3 months each for one visual artist or artist couple. The time slotsare Januar-March 2024 & April-June 2024. The residence offers international artists a space to develop their artistic projects in a focused environment and furthermore an opportunity to connect local artists and Hamburg’s art scene.
Founded in 2013 by 36 artists, the collective moved into an administrative building of a former wallpaper factory which is located in the city district ‚Bahrenfeld‘ and is split into 25 studios and one residential apartment. Along with other artists the collective benefits from the districts‘ radical change, shaped by industry as well as residential areas. Aside from creating studio space, the collective strives to establish productive collaborations amongst different areas.

Application Conditions:

Fine artists of all disciplines in visual arts, residing abroad, may apply. Students may not apply.

Scope of Grant:

– Rent-free residential apartment for 3 months
(1 living room/bedroom, 1 workroom, bathroom and corner kitchen)
– Funding of arrival and departure costs up to 1.000 Euro
– Living costs subsidy of 1.000 Euro per month
– Support by a direct contact partner from Achterhaus Ateliergemeinschaft e.V.

1. CV/résumé: With full contact details, information about training and an overview
of artistic career so far.
2. Letter of motivation: Description of reasons for wanting to take part in the
residence program, one A4 page maximum. Please mention if you prefer one of the
time slot: Jan-March 2023 or April-June.
3. Portfolio: Proof of artistic work so far in exclusively digital form.
Please merge all requested application documents into ONE continuous PDF file
(i.e. CV, Letter of Motivation, Portfolio) with a maximum size of 5 MB.

The closing date for the residence grant is 31st of October 2023.
The selection will be done by a jury of residential artists, Achterhaus
Ateliergemeinschaft e.V., Ruhrstrasse 88, 22761 Hamburg until mid-November
2023.

The studio facilities

The apartment size is 55m2 and is located on the ground floor. It has two sizeable rooms: one studio with 22m2, one bedroom with 21 m2 , bathroom and kitchen with 10m2 combined. There are windows in each of the bigger rooms which offer goodlighting.

The apartment is the only living space in the building, all the other rooms are workspaces which are only used during daytime. For photos visit:
